We’re operators first

Amherst Consulting Group is a firm founded by people who’ve served and now build companies.

Our Story

We started Amherst because we kept seeing the same problems at company after company.

Founders chasing the wrong customers. Misreading the competitive landscape. Building operations that don't scale. Telling their story in ways that don't resonate with the investors who matter.

The advice available was either too theoretical, from people who'd never built a company, or too stale, from people who hadn't been in an operating role in years.

We're different. Our team has built operations, BD infrastructure, and compliance programs from the ground up inside venture-backed startups. We've raised institutional capital, navigated complex procurement cycles, and made the hard calls that come with scaling a company before it's ready.

Our roots are in defense. We've executed DoD contracts, served in uniform, and worked directly with government customers. That background gave us our operational rigor. But the problems we solve aren't unique to defense. Every ambitious company eventually hits the point where the way things have been working stops working. That's where we come in.

We take on a small number of clients at a time.

What We Believe

  • Build to leave. The goal of every engagement is to make ourselves unnecessary. We build systems and capability, not dependency.

Operators, not observers. We've done the work we advise on. We've sat in the seat, made the calls, and lived with the consequences.

Honest over comfortable. We'll tell you what we actually think, not what's easy to hear. That's the only way advisory is worth paying for.

  • Small is intentional. We work with a handful of clients at a time because that’s how we do our best work. We’d rather go deep with a few than spread thin across many.

If what we do sounds useful, let's have a conversation.
